The Lizzy Sports Club returned to Ghana on Sunday, a day after beating some of the world’s best U-13 sides like Barcelon, Real Madrid, Liverpool to win the 2018 U13 Dubai International Cup.
Lizzy beat Real Madrid 4-2 on penalties in the finals after the game had ended level at normal time. Lizzy Sports Club began the competition with a 4-0 win over Al Wahda on Thursday after landing in Dubai a few hours before the games then continued thumping Egyptian side Wadi Degla 6-1. Barcelona were also whipped convincingly, 2-0 in the final group game as Lizzy topped the group, scoring 12 goals and conceding just once in our three games.
In the round of 16, Lizzy swept aside the Canadian Academy of Futbol in a 2-0 win, before going head on with Juventus to with on penalties 5-4. Victory in the quarters set up a semi-final clash with AFA Angola who proved a tough nut to crack, holding Lizzy Sports Club to a goalless draw but beating the by 4-1 in penalties. Our keeper, Kingsley Asare, put in a dominant performance during the shootout, saving three goals to claim the title from the grappes of Real Madrid.

‘Exhausted but successful’
On the day the Lizzy Team where supposed to leave for Dubai, on the 20th, there were issues with the Visas thereby only three players and a few officials were able to travel. The rest of the team had to join the next day arriving on the morning of the tournament which made their feat even more astounding because they were fatigued but still managed to beat all these big opponents and ultimately win the Grand Prize.
